CLIENT – City Renovations
ADDRESS – Buckingham
SECTOR – Commercial, Conservation
PROJECT VALUE – £675k
The project consisted of the refurbishment of a grade II* property located in a busy shopping street from retail to a local coffee shop with a two bedroom flat above. CMI took this project on at point of purchase and worked with the client through the design stage through to construction and completion. Due to the nature of the structure it was important to take a light tough approach to the development to ensure the original character of the building remained when works had been completed.
During the stripping out of the building 17th century artwork and structural elements were discovered and CMI worked with the Local Authority and Historic England to ensure that these artifacts were preserved while delivering a viable commercial solution for the client.
A number of the protected architectural features failed to comply and could not comply with modern building regulations, and these features had to be enclosed of sealed off to ensure that the building could be used safely in the 21st Century. The building as it had originally stood could not be let so CMI re-purposed the building to make it financially viable while allowing the heritage features to be on display.
The unit is now open as thriving coffee shop with unique apartment above.
